The Disneyland Hotel opened on October 5, 1955. That was less than three months after Disneyland Park welcomed its first guests. It became the first hotel anywhere to carry the Disney name Wikipedia. Seventy years later, it still sits within a short stroll of both theme parks. That is why so many families book it and never look at a shuttle schedule again.
Where It Is and Why Location Matters
The hotel sits at the edge of the Downtown Disney District, just steps from the shops and restaurants and a short walk from the gates of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort.
That closeness changes your day more than any single amenity. You can walk back for a mid-afternoon nap, swap a jacket, or catch the fireworks and be in bed ten minutes later. No parking structure, no tram, no “one more bus.”
A Short History of the Disneyland Hotel
The original property was designed by the firm Pereira & Luckman. It opened as a motor inn. It was owned and operated by Jack Wrather, under an agreement with Walt Disney Wikipedia. The hotel was expanded over the decades. Disney only took full ownership in 1988.
That purchase followed the death of Wrather’s widow, actress Bonita Granville. It covered the entire Wrather company.
A major renovation that began in 2009 reshaped the guest towers and the pool area, finishing in 2012. The hotel’s modern identity — sleek rooms with playful Disney nods — comes largely from that era.
Rooms, Towers and Villas
The Disneyland Hotel has 930 guest rooms and 60 suites across three towers, each named for original lands of the park: Adventure, Fantasy and Frontier Disneyland Resort. Rooms lean upscale and whimsical, with details like light-up Sleeping Beauty Castle headboards.
If you want more space, the Villas at Disneyland Hotel are a 12-story tower with 344 themed rooms and share all of the hotel’s pools, dining, and recreation. Options range from Duo Studios with a mini-refrigerator up to 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom villas with full kitchens, private bedrooms, and a washer and dryer at Disneyland Resort.
Club-level guests get access to the High Key Club, a reimagined concierge lounge celebrating the music of Disneyland Park circa 1955 — with light bites and, on select nights, fireworks viewing synced to the soundtrack at Disneyland Resort.
Pools, Waterslides and Dining
The pool deck is the reason many guests build in a rest day. Two monorail-themed waterslides anchor it: the Orange Monorail slide, roughly 25 feet high and 180 feet long, and the shorter Yellow Monorail slide at about 13 feet. There’s also the 4,800-square-foot E-Ticket Pool, a D-Ticket Pool popular for laps, the Mickey and Minnie Spa whirlpools, and the Palette Pool and Steamboat Willie Splash Area over at the Villas. Cabanas are available for a fee.
On-Site Perks — and What Changed for 2026
Park perks for hotel guests have shifted. Disney’s official hotel benefits page currently highlights a Lightning Lane entry benefit for registered guests — limited to one eligible attraction entry per guest age 3 and up, per reservation, and not valid for Lightning Lane Single Pass attractions at Disneyland Resort. The benefit is delivered through the Disneyland app and requires a MyDisney account.
Three Hotels, One Name
This is where travelers get confused. “Disneyland Hotel” refers to three different properties worldwide.

The Hong Kong property is a Victorian-style resort with a grand lobby, the Kingdom Club on its top floor, and a scheduled full closure from October 12, 2026, for upgrades — guests are being directed to Disney Explorers Lodge and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel during that period at Hong Kong Disneyland.
